There are unlimited hairstyles for long hair. Longer locks are absolutely gorgeous and the really great thing is that they are so positively versatile! Whether for formal events or just another day at the office, there are so many styles that you can choose from. If you, a friend of yours or even your child is lucky enough to have a lush mane, read on for some great styles!
The first of the hairstyles for long hair that we will talk about is the ‘down and straight’. This one is self-explanatory. Some find this easier to achieve with a layered cut so that it does not weigh the face down. Flat irons will help achieve a smooth and glossy look, if sleek is what you are after. This style can be parted in the middle or on the side. Simply coat locks with a bit of gel or styling cream for an all-day polished look. ‘Down and curly’ is the next style we will discus. Now, for those of you with natural curls, I know. You curse them while the rest of us envy you! Although natural curls may be difficult to deal with there is not a person with stick straight hair that has not uttered, “I wish….”. If you aren’t born with it, just enhance and embrace! Fortunately, there is the curling iron. Whether your curls are faux or real, mousse is your friend. A golf ball sized puff gently scrunched into your curls will help provide long lasting body. If it is damp outdoors, you may want to add a bit of a shine-enhancing spray. This will help seal out humidity and stop frizzies. Do not use too much though, or you will end up with a weighed down triangle effect, and trust me, no one wants that!
Next is the half up. Now these particular hairstyles for long hair rather fell by the wayside for a while. No worries though as they are making a resurgence into the mainstream once again. And how fortunate! These are great because they show off the length while still holding the heft out of your face. This style can be done curly or straight; it is personal preference all the way. A casual way to hold the half up is a tortoise-colored barrette. If you want to get fancy with it, you can add a jeweled pin in place of the barrette and maybe pull out a few strands in front. Simply let the strands hang by your face. This adds softness to the look. Hairspray is a great helper with this style.
Finally, we have the up do. This is one of the most formal hairstyles for long hair. While this can be done at home, it is best to go to the salon unless you are very comfortable working with your locks. This can be tiring since longer strands are heavier and tend to take longer to pin in place. Find a great stylist and ask to see pictures of previous up-dos that she has done. If she does not have personal photos of her work, ask to look at a book of hairstyles for long hair and together you can decide on which will work best for you.
